Alan Ball M.B.E. 1945 - 2007 R.I.P.

Alan Ball, another one of my footballing hero's died overnight from a heart attack. The diminutive, red-haired winger/midfielder is pictured here with Bobby Charlton and the late Bobby Moore, at Wembley, in 1966 with the World Cup.

I met Alan in 1991 at a corporate function and we chatted about his days as an England player.

Presumably he was very fit and healthy, I understand he was a golf player, so how do these fit sportsmen still die of heart attacks?

A few months ago Ellee, I heard of two guys who used to play for Margate FC passing away relatively young. Colin Clewlow died from a heart attack on a golf course. He was 57. Graham Roope, the ex-Surrey cricketer(who also was a goalkeeper) died at 60.

That's really tragic, it seems to happen to men rather than women too.

So let's carry on burning the candle at both ends...

Never. I'm far too sensible for that!
