Charity Walk - Please support me!

A little later this evening, I shall be undertaking a 17 mile walk through central London on behalf of the cancer charity, Maggies Centres

The walk starts from the Guildhall in the City and our route will take in some London's magnificent buildings. As you may know, this weekend is "Open House" for many public buildings. (Golders Green Police station is open on Sunday!)

Guest Blogging at Ellee Seymour

Ellee Seymour very kindly asked me to post something about my recent Trek in Africa on behalf of Breast Cancer Campaign.

Guest blogger today is Jeremy Jacobs writing about his cathartic trek in the Maasai foothills to boost funds for the Breast Cancer Campaign following the tragic young death of his sister Jackie.

How have you marked the death of someone close? My family bought a wooden bench in memory of my father and added a plaque with his name. It is in the grounds of Walsingham shrine in Norfolk where he found much comfort, especially towards the end of his life.

I sponsored Jeremy’s trek with a cash donation and also posted him some of my son’s football strips to hand out to local schoolchildren, hope they liked the Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester United shirts.

Life's challenges

A constant backdrop to the Trek last week were amazing views of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

At Kilimanjaro International Airport on Saturday, we met a number of people who had just climbed to the top of that famous mountain. Many of them were doing so on behalf of the Countryside Alliance.

On the short trip back to Nairobi on our Precision Air ATR-72, I spoke to one the the "Kili" gang. A charming young woman from SW London. She explained that 25 out of the 28 starters reached the summit. Impressive!

You see, whenever you reach a goal or climb a mountain, whether it be metaphorical or physical, there's always another one on the next horizon to climb. Or putting it another way - life's challenges never stop.

The latest Blogger to plug my Trek is Westminster Wisdom. In recent days Ellee Seymour, James Higham Tom Paine, and Young Conservative amongst others have highlighted my fund-raising efforts.

As a result, I've been asked to speak about my Maasai Mara African adventure upon my return. I'm sure there'll be plenty of "Margate to Maasai" public-speaking and presenting opportunities over the next few months.

Now it's down to the gym for that extra leg work!

..............and that's exactly what I'll be doing with a certain young lady from Planet Thanet. The very charming Frances Oapen (above) has reconsidered her decision not to abandon her many friends in the Blogosphere.

I'm hoping for a face to face meeting with her at a certain football match on Boxing Day. You see ladies and gentlemen, Ramsgate FC, having clawed their way out of football's sewers have reached a level where they can now play, at their quaint(NOT) home ground of Southwood, their most famous neighbours, Margate FC.

(For my Maasai Mara Trek, I hope to be taking several football shirts. These will be handed out to local children, along with some other items. If I'm lucky, on Boxing Day, I'll pick up a Ramsgate FC shirt. I'm already on a promise to receive a couple from Arsenal, Man Yoo, and wait for it, one from Tonbridge Angels).

For the first time in 34 years the two clubs go head-to-head in a league encounter. In football season 1972/3, Ted "the traitor" Heath was PM, Iain Dale was still at school and Eastcliffe Richard was trying to make it in Hollywood ( or was it Cricklewood).

It may not be the Times but...............
